Dance Teacher Certification


Training courses leading to the State Dance Teacher Certification in Classical Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz Dance


Information on the State Certification

The State Certification is compulsory to teach dance in France (10 July 1989 legislation act). The ESDC has been entrusted by the French Culture and Communication Ministry to provide this training.


The courses

The training is a one or two-year 600 hour programme (according to the selected course credits).

Preparation to the following theoretical course credits :

  • Anatomy / Physiology (50 hours)
  • Dance History (50 hours)
  • Musical studies (100 hours)

Preparation to the following pedagogical course credits (400 hours):

  • Technical pedagogy (ballet, contemporary, jazz)
  • Initiation pedagogy
  • Psycho-pedagogy
  • Dance Movement Therapy
  • Simulated practice sessions
  • Body rhythm (music & dance relationship)

Certificate course accessible to students aged 18 and above, holding the Technical Aptitude Test (E.A.T.)

Classical Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz Dance

Admission

This training course is accessible to students aged 18 and above, holding the Technical Aptitude Test (E.A.T.) or its exemption certificate.
Fluent French is required to attend the training and take the examination.

 

Diplomas & equivalences

The theoretical course credits (Anatomy-Physiology, Dance History and Musical studies) grant a university equivalence to the 2nd year of the Arts & Dance Bachelor Degree.
The pedagogical course credit grants a university equivalence to the final year of the Arts & Dance Bachelor Degree.
