“Interpreting the dancer’s instrument”
Cannes, France July 14 -17, 2011
This four-day course exploring concepts of dance medicine and science during the school's summer program offers a unique opportunity blending a summer intensive for medical practitioners, therapists, teachers, and dancers within the same structure. Participate and observe the dance activities integrating anatomy, physiology, and technique classes taught by Peter Lewton-Brain while learning essential skills for working with dancers. Dance medicine and science seminars and sessions of manual applications will be followed by an evening of lecture demonstrations offered to all participants of the summer course. The theme of the course, “Interpreting the dancers instrument,” offers diverse perspectives on appreciating, observing, testing, and screening dancers. From the functional perspective of an osteopath to that of an orthopedic surgeon, a sport medicine doctor, podiatrist, psychiatrist, and physiotherapist experienced with dancers, the participants will acquire needed skills to work with dancers in a multidisciplinary approach.
The course is open to physicians, physical therapists, osteopaths, athletic trainers, dance educators, somatic instructors, and others by request.
Participating practitioners are:
- Dr. Audrey Lucero (sports medicine, traumatology),
- Dr. Eleonora Abreu, (psychiatrist),
- Dr. Jacque Rit,
